Mort
Topfer is managing director and co-founder of Castletop Capital,
an investment firm headquartered in Austin
, Texas . He is also founder and chairman of the Topfer Family Foundation.
Previously, Mr. Topfer was vice chairman of Dell Inc. from 1994
to 2000, and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of
AMD and Measurement Specialties, Inc. He moved to the Austin area
after a 23-year career at Motorola, Inc., where he held several
key leadership positions. His professional accomplishments include
a Dell manufacturing campus in his name, as well as a Darjah Johan
Negeri Penang State Award presented to him by the governor of Penang
in recognition of his efforts to expand the electronics industry
in Malaysia . Mort has received honorary doctorates from both Polytechnic
Institute and Brooklyn College for his achievements.
Privately,
Mr. Topfer is committed to influencing social change in his community
by sharing his own business acumen and personal resources with nonprofit
partners. He has contributed significantly to various health and
human service, arts and education initiatives and continues to do
so through the Topfer Family Foundation. He has been recognized
by several leading organizations for his charitable work, including
the United Way of the Capital Area for his work in founding the
local chapter of the Alexis de Tocqueville Society and the Capital
Circle, which recognizes donors of $100,000 or more, the Greater
Austin Chamber of Commerce as 1999 Austinite of the Year, the Thoroughbred
Award for significant contributions to the arts and humanity from
the David and Sybil Yurman Humanitarian Foundation in 2001, Caritas
of Austin's Harvey Penick Award for the Excellence in the Game of
Life in 2002, the Association of Fundraising Professionals as Philanthropist
of the Year in 2000 and Outstanding Philanthropic Foundation in
2004. In 2006 the Topfer Family was awarded the Austin Community
Foundation Philanthropy Award for Leadership in Giving Back to the
Community of Austin.
Mort
Topfer grew up in Brooklyn , New York and has a degree in Physics
from Brooklyn College . He resides in Austin , Texas with his wife
Bobbi and has four children and ten grandchildren.
